Have you ever experience and event where a statement was made that was not appropriate or perpetuated a stereotype? Were you able to address or correct the statement? The goal of this blog is to gather microaggression statements that you have experienced personally, or heard from friends, family, or social media. Microaggressions are common verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicates hostile, derogatory, or negative insults. They are experienced and expressed in varying degrees of visibility or invisibility, and their effects may perpetuate damaging stereotypes. Conversely, addressing these stereotypes and microaggressions with empowering and appropriate responses in a collective manner could create instances of social justice, thus, making the invisible visible. These statements and responses will be used in completing the development of an App(lication) that will be made available for both the iPhone and Android markets for free.
